Extra curricular

At CAST we create an environment where students can grow and develop as people, nurturing interests that are wider than the formal curriculum and offer a range of enrichment opportunities.

Sixth Form Council

The Sixth Form Council is composed of both year 12 and 13 students and provides leadership opportunities for members of the Sixth Form.  The Council works closely with the CAST leadership team across a number of areas:

  • They ensure that the voice of the Sixth Form is represented in decision making at a whole school level.
  • Represent the Sixth Form at events.
  • They identify Sixth Form needs and help to address these.
  • They organise Sixth Form social events.

International trips

As a member of CAST Sixth Form, you will have the opportunity to take part in at least 2 international trips.  We run an annual trip to Geneva to visit CERN, see the Large Hadron Collider and visit the United Nations.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in a ski trip or cultural trip (for example, to Naples to see Pompei and Vesuvius).

Other trips and visits

We run a huge range of other trips across a college year, these could be linked to course, careers, or just for fun!

Gym access

CAST Sixth Form students have free access to the college's gym and all-weather pitch.

Clubs and societies

There are a range of clubs and societies that students can join, for example robotics, MedSoc, CamSat, War Hammer, Duke of Edinburgh and board games.  There is also the opportunity to join with other local United Learning Schools to take part in musical and drama productions.  Sixth Form students are also welcome to start their own clubs and societies based upon their own interests.

Cambridge Festival

The Cambridge Festival is an annual event organized by the University of Cambridge that showcases research and ideas across disciplines through a variety of free public events.  As part of the Festival CAST hosts a science day, giving Sixth Form students the opportunity to showcase their expertise and share their passion for science with the wider public.  Working with other STEM organisations from across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus students provide activities for thousands of visitors.
