Further Maths

A level Further Maths is offered for the most able mathematicians and those who wish to develop a deeper mathematical understanding. When studying this course, the students are introduced to interesting new areas of pure mathematics such as complex numbers, matrices and develop further their knowledge in both statistics and Mechanics

Content

There are 5 taught lessons per week with a 2/3 split between two teachers. The expectation is that students will also carry out 4/5 hours of private study. This will take the format of some assessed assignments, textbook exercises and individual study to consolidate understanding as the course progresses. Students will be assigned online access to any relevant textbooks and to the integral Maths website.

Assessment

At the end of each topic there will be an assessed homework and an in-class assessment. The students will be expected to attain a minimum of 40%. If this is not achieved then they will be asked to resit.

Any students who find further maths too demanding for whatever reason would be encouraged to take the AS Further Maths qualification meaning they would only study one year of the syllabus so that they can concentrate on this content and also A level Maths. We offer a great deal of support is offered to the students.
